On 6th May 2022, UNIDO Secretary-General Dr Gerd Müller, Mayor Eva Weber, representatives of the Fugger family and residents of the Fuggerei opened the pavilion celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Fuggerei on Augsburg's Town Hall Square. The world's oldest social settlement sent a dynamic signal to the world with its strikingly curved wooden building. Under the motto "Fuggerei NEXT500", the Fugger Foundations not only honoured the long and lively history of the social housing estate with the pavilion, but also took a look at the future of social housing and living in dignity as part of a five-week programme festival.
We were thrilled by the many commitments from very special guests in this anniversary year and for the pavilion programme. Well-known and respected personalities came from near and far, took part in panel discussions, debates and workshops, gave lectures, speeches and greetings, and all the while engaged with Fuggerei NEXT500 in an individual and inspiring way. We thank you for the great honour and for the extraordinary interest in Fuggerei NEXT500 and the great audience.
